Louisiana is located in the southern region of the United States. It is the 31st largest state at 52,271 square miles and the 25th most populated state with about 4.8 million occupants. It is the only state in the U.S. where the political subdivisions are called parishes, which would be the local government equivalent to counties.
Bullion Sales Tax in Louisiana
The state of Louisiana has an overall sales tax of 4%, but with the addition to local and parish taxes it can be as high as 11%. Precious metals on the other hand, such as gold silver, or numismatic coins, or platinum, gold and silver bullion are now exempt from sales tax. Previously, this exemption only applied to sales that totaled a $1,000 or more.
